Partial DOM Hydration: Angular's Most Requested Feature

Description

In 2016, Jeff Cross submitted a feature request for Partial DOM Hydration, a proposed update to Angular Universal, Angular's server-side rendering library. This proposal aimed to address common issues faced by Angular developers, such as slow server-side rendering and poor performance on initial load. However, implementing Partial DOM Hydration required significant changes to Angular's core, which were not feasible at the time.

In this talk, we will explore the history and current state of Partial DOM Hydration in Angular. We will examine the problems that prompted this popular feature request, and how other frameworks have approached similar challenges. We will also discuss what the future holds for Partial DOM Hydration in Angular and how it may shape the future of server-side rendering in the framework. By the end of this talk, attendees will have a better understanding of the issues surrounding Partial DOM Hydration, as well as the potential benefits and challenges of implementing this feature in Angular.

Key takeaways

  1. If you use Angular Universal SSR, be aware of the potential UX and Ad display issues

  2. In the short term, utilize the workarounds for these issues that have been discovered by the community

  3. In the long term, there will be new solutions baked into Angular. Join in the discussion on the GitHub issue
